oh, deadlines..

So I am officially a BAD FRIEND. I had one piece of deadline knitting, only one, and I still managed to bypass the deadline. I waved goodbye to it yesterday, as the friend who was visiting town left without the socks that I was going to surprise him with. The goal was to send them home with him so that they could avoid a trip in the mail, which, for handknit goodies, just seems too risky. I know that I will be in a constant state of paranoia until they arrive, and am tempted to overnight them just to avoid the suspense.

HOWEVER, I at least had the day off yesterday due to our lovely hurricane here on the east coast. So far the apartment has escaped the flooding and downed trees, and our power even stayed on! So I took the opportunity to finish these dratted socks. I love them, the colorwork is charming, but after having them come out slightly too big, with a hole in one gusset, I am through! I believe that I shrank them with a judicious application of hot water, and, having McGyver-kitchenered their toes (not a real kitchener stitch, but some approximation) they have now been blocked and are hanging on a chair to dry. I curse the bitter irony of finishing the socks a mere day after their intended recipient has departed, but on the bright side, I will have pictures of the completed product after they dry themselves. In a few days, after they grace the feet of my best friend, we should have some action shots as well. Prepare yourselves, o readers :)

  1. that happens to me all the time! Deadline knitting is so hard, for some reason. At least you are safe and dry! That’s good news, for sure.

    • Thanks! I’m glad that the storm wasn’t too severe here. I can’t seem to knit for a deadline, and I get frustrated because I tend to miss them just barely >.<
