Flower Fairy Dress

Blog, I really need to get my act together.

Here’s the thing. I finished the baby dress I was working on. I finished it a WHILE ago. (we won’t discuss exactly how long.) However, after taking pictures, did I post them here for you to collectively squee over? No I did not. Did I, at least, send the actual item to my aunt? Nope. Not for almost two months after I finished it.
I fail so hard.
However, I am attempting to put right my laziness, and at least show you all what I have wrought! Behold the glory of the Clara dress, quite possibly the cutest baby dress ever.

I even used a tiny pink flower button for the back closure. OMG.

Now I really had to psych myself up to mail this to its intended recipient. I have to say, I have a morbid aversion to mailing hand knits, even with insurance and delivery confirmation and such. It stresses me out, since the item took so long to create, and things do go missing in the mail. Waaaaaaah! But I had to get over it unless I wanted to fly it to California myself.

For those inquiring minds out there, who want to know pattern and yarn, the pattern is Clara. This pattern is only available as a kit, but so strong was my love for it, that I bought it, and didn’t even plan to use the kit yarn. LOL. I was just enchanted by how the dress looks like something a delicate little flower fairy would wear, and the perfect lacy bodice, and the flared skirt, and the perfect use of seed stitch as an accent, and basically I just became obsessed and needed it. It was reasonably difficult, but after a while the pattern became pretty intuitive so it was still a fun and relaxing knit. Here’s a couple more closeups of the lace pattern because it is SO GORGEOUS. (Also I am proud of myself, this is probably the hardest lace I’ve ever done!)

The yarn I used was Tanis Fiber Arts Blue Label Sock in Pink Grapefruit. I cannot even tell you how much I love this yarn. For practicality purposes as well, especially for baby knits, it’s great! It’s machine washable and very durable, but still sooooo soft. Tanis does fabulous tonal colorways in amazingly saturated hues, and I want a sweater in every single one of her colorways, starting with Seabreeze. That is my hue! Luckily for me, I thought I would need two skeins of this yarn for the dress, and guess what?
I only needed one. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (I don’t know what I’m going to make yet. Maybe a shawlette.)

  1. I’ve been drooling over Clara. I hate that it only comes in a kit!

Your lace is lovely and the color is so girly! A very lucky little girl gets to wear this. :)

    • Thank you so much! The package just arrived, and apparently it’s still a little bit too big, so despite my wanting to cling to it and call it “the precious” and never mail it away, no harm was done by my refusing to send it :P

    That is gorgeous!

    • Awww, thank you! It’s rare that something turns out exactly the way you want, but this project actually did, and I am savoring it!

  3. So beautiful!!! Your lacework is impeccable and the color is divine… an heirloom piece for sure!

    • It actually looked like tangly noodles before blocking, and I was really worried! But I actually blocked the top part over a balloon, and the lace just opened up beautifully :D

      • A balloon! How clever! I’ll have to remember that trick. :-)

  4. Adorable! And I’m totally terrible about mailing things too.

  5. Q – Absolutely adorable!!!

  6. Wow, that is absolutely beautiful! Trust me, I understand your hand knit mailing allergy. I have the same problem, but it’s more just the post office to mail all and any packages. There are 5 going out after the New Year, because I will get hives if I try to do it otherwise. Last baby knit didn’t even need to be mailed and it still took me a month to get it to the nice lady…
